Target Information

Cytoplasmic malate dehydrogenase (MDH1) catalyzes the reduction of aromatic alpha-keto acids in the presence of NADH. It is crucial for the malate-aspartate shuttle and the tricarboxylic acid cycle, which are key processes in supplying mitochondrial NADH for oxidative phosphorylation. During mouse embryonic development, MDH1 expression is vital for oocyte maturation and embryonic progression. Research indicates that diminished MDH1 expression can significantly reduce the oocyte maturation rate, thereby impacting normal embryonic development. In models of acute liver failure (ALF), MDH1 deacetylation is closely linked to energy metabolism disorders. Studies demonstrate that deacetylation of MDH1 can exacerbate liver tissue damage, resulting in elevated levels of ALT, AST, and TBIL, which are indicative of liver cell damage.
