Target Information
In mice, macrophage stimulating protein (MSP) predominantly activates and regulates macrophages. By binding to its receptor RON, MSP triggers downstream signaling pathways, influencing macrophage migration, phagocytosis, and nitric oxide (NO) production. As a member of the hepatocyte growth factor-like protein family (HGF-SF), MSP is a soluble protein that binds to the RON receptor on macrophage surfaces. This binding activates the receptor's tyrosine kinase activity, initiating a cascade of signal transduction events. MSP enhances macrophage migration and phagocytosis. In mouse peritoneal macrophages, MSP induces phagocytosis through the C3b receptors CR1 and CR5a.
