Target Information
In mice, luteinizing hormone (LH) primarily regulates the reproductive system, including follicular development, ovulation, and the normal functioning of the gonads. As a key hormone in ovulation regulation, LH's pulsatile release is controlled by gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. LH activates the cAMP signaling pathway in the granulosa cells surrounding the follicles, reducing the cAMP levels and prompting cytoskeleton reorganization within these cells. This transformation of granulosa cells into cumulus cells ultimately leads to the maturation and ovulation of the oocyte. Additionally, in Alzheimer's disease (AD) research, LH has been shown to potentially influence cognitive function indirectly by regulating the metabolism of amyloid β protein precursor.
