Target Information
In mice, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) primarily affects immune response and inflammation. Research indicates that LPS can induce pathological behaviors in mice, a process closely linked to the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. LPS activates the immune system and triggers the expression of cytokines like interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), leading to an inflammatory response. This response results in various pathological behaviors, including reduced social exploration, decreased physical activity, weight loss, and increased immobility. However, studies have shown that these behaviors are not entirely dependent on IL-1β expression. Even in mice lacking the IL-1 receptor type I (IL-1RI-/-), LPS can still stimulate TNF-α expression and cause similar behavioral changes.
