Target Information
Lipoprotein lipase is a critical enzyme in triglyceride metabolism, catalyzing the hydrolysis of triglycerides from circulating chylomicrons and very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL). This process plays a key role in clearing lipids from the bloodstream and in lipid utilization and storage. In mice, the functions of LpL are primarily associated with the regulation of lipid metabolism, heart health, and the potential risk of atherosclerosis. In transgenic mice, LpL was expressed on the surface of cardiomyocytes by using a fusion of the α-heavy chain actin promoter with the human LpL gene construct. These mice exhibited cardiac dilation and impaired left ventricular systolic function, suggesting that LpL expression on cardiomyocyte surfaces might negatively impact cardiac function.
