Target Information
Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is an enzyme with broad substrate specificity, catalyzing the hydrolysis of triacylglycerols (TAGs), diacylglycerols (DAGs), monoacylglycerols (MAGs), cholesteryl esters, and retinyl esters. It preferentially hydrolyzes DAGs over TAGs and MAGs, targeting the fatty acid esters at the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of the glycerol backbone in TAGs. In mouse adipose tissue, HSL is primarily involved in lipolysis and the regulation of energy metabolism, playing a significant role in the reproductive system and insulin secretion as well. However, the absence of HSL does not entirely prevent fatty acid mobilization, as other lipolytic enzymes like ATGL partially compensate for this function.
