Target Information

Left-right determination factor 1 is essential for establishing the left-right axis, acting as a regulator of LEFTY2 and NODAL. In mice, Lefty1 has extensive functions, ranging from embryonic development to adult tissue repair. In mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs), Lefty1 and Lefty2 together regulate the balance between self-renewal and pluripotent differentiation of stem cells. Specifically, Lefty1 inhibits the phosphorylation of Smad2/3, thereby suppressing the Nodal/Activin signaling pathway and promoting stem cell differentiation. Conversely, knocking down Lefty1 results in reduced stem cell differentiation and increased self-renewal capacity.
