Target Information
Neural cell adhesion molecule L1 (L1CAM) is involved in cell adhesion dynamics and transmembrane signaling at tyrosine kinase receptors. During brain development, L1CAM is crucial for processes such as neuronal migration, axonal growth and fasciculation, and synaptogenesis. In the mature brain, it contributes to neuronal structure and function dynamics, including synaptic plasticity. In mice, L1CAM is vital for neural development, influencing neuron migration, axon growth, neural circuit formation, and synaptic plasticity. Mutations in L1CAM can lead to severe neurodevelopmental abnormalities in mice, such as cerebellar hypoplasia, abnormal cerebral cortical development, and motor dysfunction.
