Target Information
Ki-67 is a nuclear protein widely recognized as a marker for the proliferation state of mammalian cells. It is expressed during all active phases of the cell cycle (G1, S, G2, and M phases) but is absent in the quiescent phase (G0). In mice, Ki-67 expression is frequently utilized to evaluate the proliferative activity of cells in tissue or tumor samples. Beyond its role as a proliferation marker, Ki-67 is also involved in critical biological processes, including chromosome segregation, nucleolar function, immune cell development, and DNA replication. During mitosis, Ki-67 is particularly essential for chromosome segregation and the formation of the perichromosomal layer. Research indicates that the absence of Ki-67 disrupts the perichromosomal layer, impairing normal chromosome segregation and nucleolar reorganization.
