Target Information

Kallikrein-7 may catalyze the breakdown of intercellular cohesive structures in the cornified layer of the skin, facilitating the continuous shedding of cells from the skin's surface. It specifically targets amino acid residues with aromatic side chains at the P1 position. Kallikreins, a class of serine proteases, have the ability to cleave low molecular weight kininogens to produce vasoactive peptides, such as bradykinin, exerting various biological effects. These enzymes are essential in the cardiovascular, renal, central nervous, and immune systems. In an Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse model, KLK7 has been identified as an astrocyte-derived enzyme that degrades amyloid-β (Aβ). The absence of KLK7 worsens Aβ pathology, highlighting its significant role in clearing Aβ deposits.
