Target Information

In mice, KLK6 fulfills several biological roles, such as promoting skin regeneration, regulating inflammatory responses, contributing to tumor development and metastasis, and influencing neurodegenerative diseases. Research indicates that KLK6 knockout mice (KLK6−/−) have a thinner epidermis and reduced keratinocyte proliferation, yet they are less sensitive to acute steroid-induced skin atrophy. KLK6 aids in epidermal barrier repair by promoting E-cadherin shedding and enhancing keratinocyte migration. Additionally, KLK6 is involved in various inflammatory diseases. For instance, in the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model, KLK6 is secreted by mouse oligodendrocytes and helps regulate disease progression. KLK6 knockout mice exhibit milder symptoms, including delayed onset and reduced paralysis.
