Target Information

Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is a homodimeric cytokine predominantly expressed by T-lymphocytes and NK cells, playing a vital role in the survival, differentiation, and chemotaxis of eosinophils. It also influences both activated and resting B-cells by inducing immunoglobulin production, growth, and differentiation. In mice, IL-5 is involved in various functions, including hematopoietic development, angiogenesis, immune response, and inflammation. IL-5 is crucial for the development of hematopoietic stem cells. Research has shown that, in the presence of IL-5 and IL-3, IL-5 can facilitate the development of multi-lineage progenitor cells (such as GEM, GEMM, and EM) as well as unilineage hematopoietic progenitor cells (like BFU-E). Under serum-free conditions, IL-5 was able to completely substitute the role of IL-3 in supporting hematopoietic progenitor cells, highlighting its essential role in the early stages of hematopoietic development.
