Target Information

Interleukin 19 is a cytokine that acts as an anti-inflammatory and proangiogenic factor. It promotes an anti-inflammatory phenotype in adaptive immunity by inducing T-helper 2 responses through the down-regulation of IFN-gamma and up-regulation of IL4 and IL5. Produced by osteocytes, IL-19 stimulates granulopoiesis and neutrophil formation. In mice, IL-19 has complex and varied roles, exhibiting both anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory effects depending on the disease context, immune environment, and cell types involved. IL-19, produced by macrophages and astrocytes, functions as an anti-inflammatory cytokine that limits the inflammatory response through a negative feedback mechanism. In the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model, IL-19 can reduce disease severity, potentially due to its inhibition of antigen-presenting cell activation.
