Target Information

Interleukin-18-binding protein (IL-18BP) binds to IL-18, inhibiting its activity and serving as an inhibitor of the early TH1 cytokine response. In mice, the primary role of IL-18BP is to modulate immune responses and inflammatory processes by suppressing IL-18 activity. In the a7HMZ mouse model linked to colitis and colon cancer, IL-18BP expression is diminished, potentially contributing to impaired barrier function and a pro-inflammatory state. IL-18BP has also been researched for its role in assessing host immune responses in parasitic infections like Leishmania infantum, and it acts as a crucial factor in regulating immune responses within the tumor microenvironment.
