Target Information

IL-17 is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by CD4+ T cells, primarily acting by inducing the expression of new genes. It enhances the expression of several inflammation-related genes, including IL-6, G-CSF, CXCL1, and CXCL2, which are crucial for inflammation and immune responses. In mice, IL-17 is involved in various functions, such as immunoregulation, inflammatory responses, the development of autoimmune diseases, and antimicrobial defense. IL-17 is particularly important for lung defense; studies have shown its signaling is critical for neutrophil recruitment and antimicrobial defense in the lungs. In a mouse model of Klebsiella pneumoniae infection, signaling through the IL-17 receptor is vital for the production of G-CSF and CXC chemokines, essential components of lung host defense.
