Target Information
Interleukin-12 subunit alpha (IL12A) combines with IL12B to form the IL-12 cytokine, or with EBI3/IL27B to create the IL-35 cytokine. IL-12 is primarily produced by professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs) such as B-cells, dendritic cells (DCs), macrophages, and granulocytes. It plays a crucial role in regulating T-cell and natural killer-cell responses, induces the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), supports the differentiation of T-helper 1 (Th1) cells, and serves as an essential link between innate resistance and adaptive immunity. IL12A is important in sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction and may influence cardiac function by regulating the balance of M1/M2 macrophages.
