Mouse interleukin-12 (IL-12) is vital for various biological functions and disease mechanisms, including anti-tumor, anti-viral, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory effects. In mice, IL-12 exhibits significant anti-tumor activity by enhancing the cytotoxic activity of natural killer (NK) cells and lymphocytes, promoting T cell proliferation, and inducing interferon gamma (IFN-γ) production. These effects collectively strengthen the immune response against tumor cells. IL-12 also plays a crucial role in antiviral immunity. For instance, in mice infected with cytomegalovirus (MCMV), IL-12 treatment significantly extends the survival time of athymic and SCID mice.
