Target Information
ICAM proteins serve as ligands for the leukocyte adhesion protein LFA-1, which is the integrin alpha-L/beta-2. In mice, the primary role of Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-5 (ICAM-5) involves the growth and differentiation of neuronal dendrites. ICAM-5, a polarized membrane glycoprotein, is expressed in neurons within the mouse brain and facilitates the growth and branching of neuronal dendrites through homologous adhesion. As a monomer, ICAM-5 interacts through its immunoglobulin domain 1 with domains 4-5, but it forms a high-molecular complex once neurons mature. This adhesion activity is controlled by the conversion between non-monomeric and monomeric forms.
