Target Information

Inter alpha-trypsin inhibitor, heavy chain 4, is a type II acute-phase protein (APP) that plays a role in inflammatory responses to trauma and may contribute to liver development or regeneration. In experimental arthritis, such as the pGIA model, levels of ITIH4 and its carboxylated form (cit-ITIH4) significantly increase in joint fluid and serum, correlating with disease activity. Additionally, ITIH4 shows an upregulation trend in a colitis mouse model, indicating its potential involvement in intestinal inflammation. In certain contexts, such as septic mice, ITIH4 acts as a negative acute phase protein, with concentrations decreasing following infection, suggesting that its role may vary across different inflammatory scenarios.
