Target Information
Integrin alpha-1/beta-1 serves as a receptor for laminin and collagen, recognizing the proline-hydroxylated sequence G-F-P-G-E-R in collagen. It is involved in anchorage-dependent negative regulation of EGF-stimulated cell growth. In mice, integrin α1 plays multiple roles, including regulating immune responses, influencing tumor angiogenesis, promoting cell adhesion and migration, and participating in inflammatory responses. Mice lacking integrin α1 exhibit heightened susceptibility to secondary viral infections, potentially due to a reduced number of virus-specific memory T cells in the lungs. However, these mice do not show defects during an initial non-lethal influenza virus infection. This indicates that integrin α1 is crucial for maintaining immune memory and secondary immune responses, while having minimal impact on the primary immune response.
