Target Information

Insulin-like peptide INSL5 may play a role in gut contractility and thymic development and regulation. It effectively activates the RXFP4 receptor and is likely the endogenous ligand for this receptor. INSL5 serves various physiological functions in mice, including regulating appetite, energy metabolism, immune response, and reproductive function. Under energy-deficient conditions, such as fasting or long-term calorie restriction, plasma levels of INSL5 increase in mice but decrease following food intake. A peripheral injection of INSL5 can boost food intake, although this effect relies on the presence of the RXFP4 receptor.
