Target Information
Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) catalyzes the crucial first and rate-limiting step in the breakdown of the essential amino acid tryptophan along the kynurenine pathway. This enzyme is pivotal in promoting peripheral immune tolerance, helping maintain homeostasis by preventing autoimmune reactions or immunopathology that could arise from excessive and uncontrolled immune responses. In mice, the primary function of IDO1 is to regulate immune cell activity through the tryptophan degradation pathway. This regulation plays a significant role in tumor immune escape, inflammatory responses, pregnancy immune tolerance, and defense against infections.
