Target Information
The mouse immunoglobulin κ chain plays several roles in B cell development and immune response. Its regulatory mechanisms involve gene rearrangement, enhancer activity, chromatin structure modifications, and the orchestrated action of transcription factors. These functions depend on the genetic diversity of κ chain genes and their precise regulation during different developmental stages. The expression of the Igκ gene is controlled by multiple enhancers and transcription factors. During B cell development, the expression of κ chain genes is influenced by DNase I-sensitive regions, which activate in early B cells, highlighting their importance for κ chain gene activation. The rearrangement of the Igκ gene is a crucial step in B cell differentiation, typically involving recombination of the VJ (variable-joining) region of the κ chain gene. This rearrangement process necessitates specific chromatin structures and transcription factors.
