Target Information

Huntingtin is believed to be involved in microtubule-mediated transport or vesicle function. In mice, the huntingtin protein has a broad range of functions, playing a critical role from embryonic development through to the maintenance of neurological function in adulthood, as well as being implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Its normal activity is crucial for embryonic survival, neurogenesis, and neuroprotection in adulthood, while mutant forms are strongly linked to neurodegenerative conditions such as Huntington's disease (HD). In adult mice, the huntingtin protein is vital for sustaining normal neurological function, with studies indicating that reducing huntingtin levels by 50% or more can result in neurological issues such as movement disorders and heightened sensitivity to toxic stimuli.
