Target Information
Histone deacetylase 1 is an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of acetyl groups from lysine residues on the N-terminal part of core histones, namely H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. This deacetylation acts as a marker for epigenetic repression and plays a crucial role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental processes. In mouse embryonic development, HDAC1 is particularly important. It shows strong nuclear localization during the genome activation phase of preimplantation embryos and influences gene expression through deacetylation. In the mouse hippocampus, HDAC1 modulates the extinction of fear memory by deacetylating H3K9.
