Target Information
Histidine-rich glycoprotein is a plasma glycoprotein that interacts with various ligands including heme, heparin, heparan sulfate, thrombospondin, plasminogen, and divalent metal ions. It binds to heparin and heparan sulfate in a zinc-dependent manner and attaches to heparan sulfate on the surface of endothelial cells in the liver, lungs, kidneys, and heart. Additionally, it interacts with N-sulfated polysaccharide chains on liver endothelial cells and inhibits rosette formation. In mice, HRG plays multiple roles, such as modulating the immune system, inhibiting angiogenesis, and exerting anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and tumor-suppressing effects. It possesses significant antibacterial and antifungal properties, capable of inhibiting Candida albicans infection and protecting mice from systemic fungal infections.
