Target Information
High Molecular Weight Kininogen (HK) performs various biological functions in mice, primarily related to thrombosis, anti-inflammation, anticoagulation, and anti-tumor activities. HK is a central component of the plasma kinin-kinase system (KKS). It contributes to the activation of the coagulation process by binding to coagulation factor XI and prekallikrein, thereby promoting the initiation of the contact activation pathway. In mice, the absence of HK results in abnormal coagulation functions, such as prolonged partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and prothrombin time, highlighting its crucial role in the coagulation and fibrinolysis systems. The light chain of HK, known as HKa, possesses anticoagulant properties and can inhibit the binding of fibrinogen to cell adhesion molecules on neutrophils and platelets, thus preventing thrombosis.
