Target Information
Heat shock factor protein 1 acts as a stress-responsive, DNA-binding transcription factor that is crucial for initiating the heat shock response (HSR). This response results in the production of numerous molecular chaperones, known as heat shock proteins (HSPs), which help shield cells from damage due to stress. In cells not under stress, heat shock factor protein 1 exists in an inactive, non-DNA-binding monomeric form, within a multichaperone complex that includes HSP90. Studies have indicated that elevated temperatures sustain the decline phase of heat shock factor 1 (HSF1), which in turn activates the expression of heat shock proteins. This process has been linked to reducing insulin resistance in the skeletal muscle tissue of diet-induced obese mice.
