Target Information
Endoplasmin is a molecular chaperone that aids in the processing and transport of secreted proteins, and it is involved in endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD). In mice, Hsp90b1, also known as endoplasmin, has extensive and diverse roles, including immune regulation, tumor development, metabolic homeostasis, and organ functionality. A deficiency in Hsp90b1 leads to diminished proliferation of pancreatic β cells and causes defects in insulin secretion, resulting in pancreatic atrophy and diabetes-like symptoms. In macrophages, Hsp90b1 is crucial for Toll-like receptor-mediated inflammatory responses. Mice lacking Hsp90b1 exhibit reduced secretion of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) during Klebsiella pneumoniae infection, leading to a decreased ability to fight infections.
