Target Information
Growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), also known as somatoliberin, is released by the hypothalamus and targets the adenohypophysis to stimulate growth hormone secretion. In mice, GHRH plays roles in regulating growth, immune response, neural function, metabolic balance, and tissue repair. Beyond influencing growth, GHRH is closely linked to the immune system. Mice deficient in GHRH exhibit severe immune deficiencies when exposed to Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) infection, including spleen atrophy and reduced B lymphocyte counts. Additionally, GHRH-deficient mice display decreased memory capabilities in cognitive tests and heightened anxiety levels in anxiety models.
