Target Information
Group IID secretory phospholipase A2 is a calcium-dependent enzyme that targets extracellular lipids, playing roles in reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system. This enzyme specifically hydrolyzes the ester bond of the fatty acyl group at the sn-2 position of phospholipids, with a preference for phosphatidylethanolamines and phosphatidylglycerols over phosphatidylcholines. In mice, Group IID secretory phospholipase A2 is involved in regulating inflammatory and immune responses, providing antiviral defense, and influencing age-related disease risks. These roles make it a significant focus for the study of inflammation, immune modulation, and antiviral treatments. Interestingly, mice lacking this enzyme (sPLA2-IIID) showed higher survival rates after SARS-CoV-2 infection, with enhanced T cell responses and reduced lung damage.
