Target Information
Glypican-4 is a cell surface proteoglycan characterized by the presence of heparan sulfate. It may play a role in the development of kidney tubules and the central nervous system. In mice, Glypican-4 has several important functions, including regulating insulin signaling, fat metabolism, neural development, and cardiac differentiation. Glypican-4 acts as a novel adiponectin that enhances insulin sensitivity by directly binding to insulin receptors and boosting insulin signaling. In an obese mouse model, although mice fed a high-fat diet exhibited elevated serum Gpc4 levels, they still experienced insulin resistance and hyperglycemia. Furthermore, Gpc4 influences adipocyte differentiation by modulating the Wnt3a and Wnt5a signaling pathways. The expression pattern of Glypican-4 differs significantly in mouse adipose tissue, with typically lower expression in visceral adipose tissue compared to subcutaneous adipose tissue.
