Target Information
The glycosylated lysosomal membrane protein (GLMP) is essential for protecting the lysosomal transporter MFSD1 from proteolysis within lysosomes and ensuring its proper localization. GLMP forms a tight complex with MFSD1, a member of the major lysosomal transporter family, collaborating in lysosomal transport and function. Research indicates that GLMP is a crucial auxiliary subunit for MFSD1, with both depending on each other for their stability and lysosomal function. In mice lacking GLMP, MFSD1 expression is significantly reduced, leading to impaired lysosomal transport function and resulting in pathological features such as liver fibrosis and splenomegaly. GLMP deficiency also causes metabolic disorders in the liver of mice, including lowered blood glucose levels, reduced serum triglyceride and non-esterified fatty acid levels, and increased liver triglyceride levels.
