Target Information

gp130 influences the differentiation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts through distinct signaling pathways, impacting both bone density and size. Research indicates that a deficiency in gp130 results in reduced bone density. Its stimulatory effect on osteoblasts is primarily mediated via the STAT3 signaling pathway, whereas its inhibitory effect on osteoclasts operates through the SHP2/MAPK signaling pathway. In mice, gp130 serves multiple functions, including regulating bone metabolism, immune responses, inflammation, and liver function. While gp130-deficient mice exhibit normal trabecular bone volume (BV/TV) and bone turnover rate (TBS), their bone length is reduced due to the premature closure of the periosteal growth plate.
