Target Information

Glutathione S Transferase Alpha 1 is an enzyme that facilitates the nucleophilic attack of glutathione's sulfur atom on the electrophilic groups of a diverse array of external and internal compounds. It plays a role in forming glutathione conjugates with prostaglandin A2 (PGA2) and prostaglandin J2 (PGJ2). Additionally, it catalyzes the isomerization of D5-androstene-3,17-dione (AD) into D4-androstene-3,17-dione, potentially influencing hormone biosynthesis significantly. In mice, GSTA1 provides protection against oxidative stress and toxic damage, primarily through its antioxidant and detoxification roles, with its gene polymorphism being closely linked to the development of various diseases. In models of alcohol-induced liver cell injury, the expression of GSTA1 is notably increased.
