Target Information

Glutaminase facilitates the conversion of glutamine (Gln) into glutamate (Glu) and ammonia, essential for glutamine metabolism. Glutamine, a vital amino acid, serves as an energy source during mouse embryonic development, with its metabolite α-ketoglutarate (α-KG) entering the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle to fuel cells. Additionally, glutamine metabolism is intricately linked to mitochondrial function. In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), certain cell subtypes are vulnerable to glutamine deficiency, highlighting the significance of glutamine metabolism for the survival of specific tumor cells. In mice, glutaminase plays critical roles in energy metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, and cell metabolism regulation, which are vital for normal physiological processes and have key implications in pathological conditions, such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
