Target Information

Glutaminase 2 is crucial for regulating glutamine catabolism, enhancing mitochondrial respiration and boosting ATP production by synthesizing glutamate and alpha-ketoglutarate. It enhances cellular antioxidant capacity through NADH and glutathione production and may help inhibit tumor growth. In mice, GLS2 has diverse biological roles, including tumor suppression, neuroprotection, epilepsy regulation, metabolic regulation, and preserving retinal function. It is involved in various metabolic pathways, such as glutamine metabolism and mitochondrial function. For instance, in mice with uremia, shRNA-mediated knockdown of the GLS2 gene can decrease hyperammonemia and associated lethality. GLS2 is also implicated in other metabolic-related disorders, such as complicated bacterial sepsis (SAB).
