Target Information
Glutamate Dehydrogenase 1 is an enzyme in the mitochondria that transforms L-glutamate into alpha-ketoglutarate, playing a crucial role in glutamine anaplerosis by generating alpha-ketoglutarate, a key element of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. In mice, GLUD1 is found in various brain regions and is closely tied to glutamate metabolism. In the hippocampus, GLUD1 expression levels are linked to the hippocampus's structure, function, and metabolism, and they tend to decrease with age. In an ischemia-reperfusion model, transgenic mice with GLUD1 overexpression showed notable neuroprotective benefits. In C57BL/6 mice, overexpressing the GLUD1 gene resulted in a significant increase in glutamate release, leading to alterations in synaptic plasticity and neuronal damage.
