Target Information
The mouse glucocorticoid receptor (GR) plays a crucial role across various biological areas, including metabolic regulation, immune response, neurobehavior, and reproduction. The gene coding for the glucocorticoid receptor in mice comprises nine exons, with its expression controlled by at least three promoters exhibiting different activities across various cell types and tissues. GR influences transcription by binding to specific DNA sequences, such as glucocorticoid response elements (GRE). It is vital in metabolic processes; for instance, in the liver, GR regulates gluconeogenesis by controlling the expression of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK), thus impacting blood glucose levels. In a mouse skin tumor model, GRα inhibits tumor development by interacting with p85α/PI3K, leading to reduced activity of Akt and IκB kinases.
