Target Information
Forkhead Box Protein A2 is a transcription factor crucial for embryonic development, the establishment of tissue-specific gene expression, and regulating gene expression in differentiated tissues. It is considered a 'pioneer' factor, capable of opening compacted chromatin for other proteins by interacting with nucleosomal core histones and displacing linker histones at target enhancer and promoter sites. In mice, Foxa2 is vital for embryonic development, organ formation, metabolic homeostasis, immune regulation, and reproductive function. Mouse embryos lacking Foxa2 exhibit severe developmental defects, such as the absence of the notochord and neural tube and multiple germ layer abnormalities, which ultimately lead to embryonic death around the ninth day of gestation.
