Target Information

Mitochondrial fission 1 protein is responsible for fragmenting the mitochondrial network and promoting its perinuclear clustering. It has a secondary role in the recruitment and association of the fission mediator, dynamin-related protein 1 (DNM1L), to the mitochondrial surface, aiding in mitochondrial fission. In mice, Drp1 is extensively involved in mitochondrial fission, cellular health, and the development of neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases. Drp1 plays a significant role in neurodegenerative diseases; for instance, in Alzheimer's disease models, Drp1 overactivation is closely linked to mitochondrial dysfunction and synaptic damage. Inhibiting Drp1 activity can help alleviate Aβ-induced mitochondrial and synaptic toxicity.
