Target Information
Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1 (FGFR1) is a tyrosine-protein kinase functioning as a cell-surface receptor for fibroblast growth factors. It plays a crucial role in regulating embryonic development, cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. FGFR1 is essential for correct mesoderm patterning, proper axial organization during embryonic development, normal skeletogenesis, and the development of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neuronal system. In mice, the functions of FGFR1 are varied and complex, impacting areas such as limb development, metabolic regulation, immune response, and disease treatment. FGFR1 is particularly significant in mouse limb development. Conditional knockout studies have demonstrated FGFR1's vital role in the establishment, expansion, and differentiation of skeletal cells within limb buds. It influences limb morphology by promoting growth along the proximal-distal axis of the limb bud while limiting the size in other dimensions. Additionally, FGFR1 is crucial for the survival of skeletal precursor cells, which is vital for the expansion of skeletal cells.
