Target Information
In mice, fibrinogen primarily functions in blood coagulation and hemostasis. This soluble plasma protein is converted into insoluble fibrin upon blood vessel damage, forming clots to prevent bleeding and facilitate the repair of damaged vessels. The structure and function of fibrinogen in mice are akin to those in humans, featuring a bimolecular composition of α, β, and γ chains, which form a stable fibrin network through specific cross-linking. Additionally, fibrinogen is linked to cardiovascular disease in mouse models. Research has demonstrated that in a mouse model of myocardial infarction, the application of VEGF-loaded PEGylated fibrinogen gels can improve cardiac stability and promote neovascularization following a myocardial infarction.
