Target Information
The fibrinogen beta chain is cleaved by the enzyme thrombin, producing monomers that, along with fibrinogen alpha (FGA) and fibrinogen gamma (FGG), polymerize to form an insoluble fibrin matrix. Fibrin plays a crucial role in hemostasis, serving as a primary component of blood clots. Additionally, during the early stages of wound healing, it helps stabilize the lesion and directs cell migration during re-epithelialization. In mice, the fibrinogen β chain is essential for fibrinogen polymerization, platelet aggregation, and hemostasis. Its proper function is vital for the effectiveness of coagulation and hemostasis and may be linked to the development of certain diseases.
