Target Information

Long-chain fatty acid transport protein 5 is responsible for importing long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) by aiding their transport across cell membranes. It also facilitates the ATP-dependent formation of fatty acyl-CoA using LCFA and very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) as substrates. In mice, Fatty Acid Transport Protein 5 (FATP5) plays a key role in fatty acid uptake, bile acid metabolism, and metabolic regulation linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance. Research indicates that FATP5 is highly expressed in the mouse liver and is essential for normal fatty acid uptake. For instance, FATP5 knockout mice exhibit defects in bile acid binding and are resistant to obesity.
