Target Information

Encoded by the Fabp6 gene in mice, gastrotropin binds to bile acids and participates in enterohepatic bile acid metabolism. It is essential for the efficient apical to basolateral transport of conjugated bile acids in ileal enterocytes and stimulates the secretion of gastric acid and pepsinogen. FABP6 is a bile acid-binding protein that is mainly expressed in the epithelial cells of the mouse ileum and is responsible for the transmembrane transport of bile acids. It has been shown that FABP6 maintains the balance of the bile acid pool in the intestine by binding to bile acids in the mouse ileum and facilitating their transport from basolateral to apical levels.
