Target Information

FABPs are believed to aid in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters. In mice, FABP3 is expressed in the brain and plays a role in regulating neuronal function. For instance, research indicates that FABP3 deficiency can decrease the aggregation and toxic spread of α-synuclein, thereby improving behavioral deficits in Parkinson's disease (PD) model mice. Additionally, FABP3 influences signal transduction in the mouse brain by modulating the function of the dopamine receptor D2. FABP3 is also intimately linked to glucose uptake and insulin signaling in mouse muscle cells.
