Target Information

Fas Ligand (FasL) is a cell surface molecule belonging to the tumor necrosis factor family, which triggers apoptosis in Fas-positive cells by binding to its receptor, Fas. In mice, the Fas/FasL system plays a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes, including immune regulation, tissue repair, and disease progression and development. Abnormal FasL expression can, in some instances, lead to lymphoproliferative and autoimmune diseases. For instance, mice lacking MHC class II transcription factor 1 (CIITA) exhibit abnormal FasL expression, potentially linked to delayed T cell apoptosis. Studies have shown that increased FasL expression can lead to heightened apoptosis of corneal epithelial cells, negatively impacting corneal repair.
