Target Information
Endothelins are peptides derived from the endothelium that act as vasoconstrictors. Endothelin-1 likely serves as a ligand for the G-protein coupled receptors EDNRA and EDNRB, triggering the activation of PTK2B, BCAR1, BCAR3, and the GTPases RAP1 and RHOA cascade in glomerular mesangial cells. In mice, ET-1 engages in various biological roles, including vasoconstriction, inflammatory response, tissue repair, and neural regulation. Specifically, ET-1 induces neurogenic itch in mice by binding to the ETA (endothelin A receptor). Additionally, ET-1 influences sodium excretion via ETA receptors in the renal medulla, impacting blood pressure and fluid balance.
