Target Information
Dual specificity protein phosphatase 1 (DUSP1) is an enzyme that dephosphorylates MAP kinase MAPK1/ERK2 at both 'Thr-183' and 'Tyr-185', thus playing a critical role in regulating its activity during the meiotic cell cycle. In mice, DUSP1 serves a protective function against lethal endotoxin shock by modulating the gene expression induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Research has demonstrated that mice deficient in DUSP1 (DUSP1−/−) experience a markedly increased risk of death when exposed to LPS. This heightened lethality is attributed to the prolonged activation of p38 MAPK and the excessive production of proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-6 and TNF-α.
